DUDLEY, Mass. — The Nichols College men's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance Saturday morning at Vendetti Field, rolling past the Amcats of Anna Maria College in a 24–7 non-conference victory.
With the win, the Bison move on to 2-1 (0-0 CNE) while the Amcats drop to 0-4 (0-0 MASCAC).
The 24-goal outburst marks the Bison's first 20-plus goal performance since 2022, when they set their single-game program high in a 27–3 win over Eastern Nazarene. This marks the program's first game with 3 goal scorers or more with 3 goals or more since the same game against eastern Nazarene.
The Bison also etched their names into the record book at faceoff X, setting a new single-game program record with 32 faceoff wins. The mark surpasses the previous record of 29, which was set on March 8, 2025, against Gwynedd Mercy. Defensively, Nichols was just as dominant, forcing 22 turnovers — a total that ties for third-most caused turnovers in a single game in program history.
The Bison's offensive surge was highlighted by sophomore
Tyler Olivo, who set multiple career highs in the win. Olivo netted a career-best six goals and added three assists for a personal-high nine points. He also set a career high with four ground balls and caused a turnover in a strong all-around performance. Sophomore
Kane Williams continued the career-high trend, tallying five goals and a personal-best eight points while adding three assists. With the performance, Williams has already surpassed his goal total from last season, sitting at 10 goals this year after finishing with nine a season ago. He also chipped in three ground balls. Senior
Conor Doherty rounded out the hat-trick club for the Bison, recording three goals and three assists for six points, while adding a pair of ground balls in the victory. Senior
Travis Arnold had an almost perfect day from the faceoff x today, going 17-18, slamming in a goal, and grabbing a whopping 16 ground balls. Finally, Sophomore
Andrew Whitman made his first collegiate start and earned his first win of his goalkeeping career facing 14 shots and recording a career high of 6 saves.
Four Bison recorded their first collegiate goals in the win, as first year
Jameson Pirro, sophomores
Bryce Soboleski and
Juan Morales, along with junior
Heath Gamarel, each found the back of the net in Saturday's victory.
The Bison wasted no time setting the tone, striking within the first two minutes as
Conor Doherty found the back of the net on an unassisted attack. The offense continued to pour it on, adding two more goals over the next four minutes from
Kane Williams and junior
Shea Ullo. Anna Maria attempted to respond, but the defensive pressure from Nichols proved overwhelming. The Bison closed out the first quarter with three additional goals from
Tyler Olivo, Hernandez, and another tally from Williams to take firm control of the momentum. Nichols carried that energy straight into the second quarter, scoring just 10 seconds into the frame off the stick of Campbell. Four minutes later, the Bison added two more goals before Anna Maria found their first — one securing the hat trick for Williams, and another in spectacular fashion as
Heath Gamarel won the faceoff, raced through the defense, and buried his first collegiate goal. It didn't stop there as Nichols landed 7 more goals before the end of the half, going into the huddle 3-16 with a lot more game to play.
The second half perfectly mirrored the first, as the Bison continued their offensive domination. Nichols scored four more goals in the third quarter while allowing just one to the Amcats, maintaining firm control of the game heading into the final frame. The final quarter saw three more goals from Anna Maria while the Bison scored four, highlighted by one from Soboleski and Pirro, marking their first collegiate goals. The Bison ended the match 24-7, beating the Amcats in almost every category.
The Bison will be back on the road for their next contest where they take on UMass Boston at the James Cotter Field on Saturday March 7th at 1:00 PM.
