Nichols Stuns No. 14/15 Curry in Shootout After 3-3 Tie (2-1 SO)

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (2/13/2026)  –  In a thrilling Conference of New England contest, the Nichols College men's ice hockey team battled nationally ranked No. 14/15 Curry College to a 3-3 tie through regulation and overtime before topping the Colonels 2-1 in a shootout Friday evening at the Levy Rink.

Curry struck first early in the first when Andrew Morton scored off assists from Jett Otwell and Ryan Prewitt, giving the Colonels a 1-0 lead just 2:06 into the first period. Nichols responded at 10:10, as Alexis Trudeau evened the score with an even-strength finish, set up by Wyatt Teubert and James Berg, knotting it at 1-1 after the first period.

Curry regained the lead just 3:39 into the second when Shane Carr scored with helpers from Ben Biester and Blake Rothstein, making it 2-1. The Bison countered at 6:25, with Jeremy Tremblay converting on assists from Justin Massa and Aaron Hamel to tie the game at 2-2. Nichols took its first lead at 13:16, as Rocco Bianculli scored with an assist from Aidan Flynn, putting the Bison up 3-2 after two periods. Freshman goaltender Ryan Henry recorded 13 saves in the period, his most saves out of any of the periods.

Nichols held on for 17 minutes of the third period, battling to kill off a minor penalty to keep the game at 3-2. Curry forced the game to overtime when they pulled their goalie for the man-advantage, and Gage Dill and JP Moreira found Killian Rowlee at 17:33, who buried his shot to tie the contest 3-3 and sent it to overtime.

Neither team could find the game-winner in overtime, setting up a shootout. The best chance of overtime came through the Bison, when they found themselves in a 3-on-0 situation after jumping on a Colonel mistake. The Bison recorded three quality shots off the opportunity, but Curry's goaltender stood on his head to keep the Bison out.

In the shootout, both sides traded chances, but Nichols prevailed 2-1 in the shootout, with Jeremy Tremblay and Aaron Hamel converting for the Bison and Henry making four massive saves.

Seven different Bison earned points in the game, with Massa, Hamel, and Tremblay extending their point streaks to three games. Massa sits at 6 points in the last three games, while Hamel and Tremblay have 4 points in the last three games. Henry stopped 27 shots in regulation and overtime to guide the Bison to the shootout win.

The Bison returns to action tomorrow afternoon, when they travel to Beverly for a matchup against No. 8 Endicott College. Puck drop is set for 2 PM at the Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
