Women's Ice Hockey Falls Short Against Curry College

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (1/16/26) - The Nichols College women's ice hockey team returned to Levy Rink on Friday night to continue conference play against the Curry College Colonels. After three periods of play, the Bison came up short to end the game, losing 1-4 against the Colonels.

Following the loss, Nichols' record drops to 4-11-0 for their season overall, 1-9-0 in Conference of New England competition. Curry College improves with their win to an 8-5-1 record, 4-3-1 in conference play.

Nichols College goaltender Paige Almon played a very impressive first period, stopping 13 shots from entering the Bison net. Almon also defended the Colonels with an empty net and up a skater at 13:55, plus a power-play at 14:01. On the other hand, the Bison struggled to get shots up against the Colonels. Curry was able to outshoot Nichols 14-7, a crucial factor in the Colonels forming a lead in the first period. At the horn, Curry produced a goal-scoring shot with Nichols down a skater on power-play that after review wad deemed good, putting the Colonels up 1-0.

Despite Curry College taking fewer shots on the period and having Paige Almon save 12 shots, the Colonels added to their established lead within the second period of play. At 15:33, Curry sank a goal close to the net after forming a play on the blue line, increasing the lead to 2-0 in favor of the Bison.

Curry College kept up the same momentum to open up the third period. At 18:32, Curry extended their lead with an even-strength score, giving the Bison limited time to mount a comeback, being down 3-0. In a matched offensive display, the Colonels added to their lead once again, scoring their fourth goal of the night at 12:53, now up 4-0. Through it all, Nichols was able to push themselves into the scoring problem before the final horn. At 5:11, a rebound shot from forward Keira Goffe off a blue-line shot from Cela MacDougall hit the back of the net and gave Nichols their first and last score of the night. Goffe's was ruled assisted by MacDougall as well as Kerstin Ambruso. When the final horn sounded, both teams came off the ice with a final score of 4-1 in favor of Curry College.

Despite the loss, the Bison split the face off efforts even with the Colonels at 29-58 for both sides. Rhea Bullens also led with blocks for the Bison with four of the night.

Nichols will face the Colonels again tomorrow at the Canton Ice House on Saturday, January 17th. The game is set to start at 3:00 PM.
