Goffe Shines, but Curry Edges Nichols 5-4 in Overtime

CANTON, Mass. (1/17/2026) –  Freshman forward Keira Goffe recorded two goals, but the Nichols College women's ice hockey team suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 overtime loss to Curry College on Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England action. Nichols erased deficits three separate times and forced overtime late in regulation, but Curry's Bella Mardesich scored just nine seconds into the extra frame to secure the win.

Nichols skids to 4-12-0 (1-10-0 CNE) while Curry moves to 9-5-1 (5-3-1 CNE) on the season.

Nichols opened the scoring at 9:45, as Alexis Pacheco buried an even-strength goal off assists from Riley Devlin and Sophie Costello-Krakowski to give the Bison an early 1-0 lead. Curry responded while shorthanded at 12:01, when Rian Faery evened the game on the breakaway. The Colonels then took their first lead late in the period, with Darby Marshall converting at 18:08 off another breakaway, sending Nichols into the first intermission trailing 2-1. Marshall's goal was assisted by the feed from Kayley Hansen and Tommi Nash.

Nichols evened the score early in the second period as Goffe picked up the rebound from a blocked pass by Kaylyn Bourque and buried it past the Colonels' goaltender at 3:04 to make it 2-2. Curry answered midway through the period on an unassisted tally by Mardesich at 10:31, reclaiming the lead. Goffe struck again late in the frame, scoring unassisted at 18:32 to knot the contest at 3-3 heading into the final period.

Curry regained the advantage at 11:12 in the third period when Margot Oxman scored at even strength. Nichols responded once more when Bourque picked up the puck in her own zone and went coast to coast to add an unassisted goal to her two-point performance at 16:29, tying the game 4-4 and forcing overtime.

Just nine seconds into overtime, Mardesich found the back of the net off a face off win from Morgan Slough, delivering the game-winner and sealing the 5–4 Curry victory.

Sophomore Taylor Daley started in net for the Bison, recording 25 saves in the close contest.

The Bison return next weekend when they host the University of New England at the Levy Rink on Friday, January 23rd for Nichols' Skate With the Bison and Athletes-4-Athletes game. Puck drop is set for 4:40 PM.
