Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Shut Out by Salve Regina, 5-0

DUDLEY, Mass. (9/24/2025) – In their return to non-conference play, the Nichols field hockey team came up empty in a 5-0 loss to visiting Salve Regina University on Wednesday night at Vendetti Field.

Nichols falls to 2-7 (0-2 CNE) overall with the loss, while Salve Regina improves to 6-1 (0-1 NEWMAC).

Despite a 7-1 shots advantage for the guests, the two teams seemed evenly matched in the opening quarter of the contest, with the majority of play occurring in neutral field. However, the Seahawks took off in the second quarter, exploding for three quick goals across a four-minute span, including one on a penalty stroke to open the scoring in the 20th minute of action. It didn't stop there, however, as the Seahawks added a fourth goal at the 27:06 mark of the quarter, resulting in a comfortable 4-0 Salve Regina lead at the break.

The Seahawks extended their lead even further in the third quarter thanks to a goal just 6:07 into the frame to make it 5-0, with Salve Regina outshooting the Bison by a 7-2 margin. Nichols managed to find its groove late, beginning with a fourth quarter penalty stroke save by junior goalkeeper Fallyn Belisle, which was later followed by four straight Bison shots to close out the contest, despite none finding their way into the net.
In goal, freshman Jessa Altemose (2-7) made the start and registered eight saves, while Belisle picked up four saves playing the final 15 minutes of the game.

Field Hockey jumps back on the road for a Saturday tilt at CNE opponent Western New England University (6-3, 2-0 CNE), with game start at 1:00 PM inside Golden Bear Stadium.
