Women’s Soccer Drops CNE Matchup to UNE, 3-1

BIDDEFORD, Maine (9/20/2025) – The Nichols College Women's Soccer team traveled up to the University of New England for a Conference of New England match. Despite the Bison finding a goal through Cassie Rice, the Nor'easters would ultimately take the game 3-1 on a sunny September afternoon in Biddeford, Maine.

The Bison drops to 1‑7‑0 (0-2 CNE) after this match, while UNE improves to 6‑2‑0 (2‑0‑0 CNE) with the win.

The lone goal of the first half belonged to UNE, after they opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a goal from Jill Hodgson. The Bison would go into half time only a goal behind thanks to Isabella Dupret five saves in the first half.

The Nor'easters would find more success halfway through the second half, when Ari Veneto extended the lead with a strike in the 73rd minute. Sydney Balotin would add her own goal in the 83rd minute to make it 3-0. Both goals were set up by senior Karley Belisle.

Nichols would finally break through the Nor'easters' defense in the 86th minute when Cassie Rice found the back of the net off a free kick, but it would be a little too late. The game would end 3-1 in favor of UNE.

Nichols' goalkeeper Isabella Dupret started the game and made 9 saves on the day in the 76 minutes played. Hannah Deschene handled the remaining 14 minutes, making 1 save on the two shots on goal faced.

The Nichols Women's Soccer team are on the road on Tuesday, September 23rd for a matchup against Smith College. Match kicks off at 4 PM.
