Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Plays Out Stalemate vs. UNE, 0-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine (9/20/2025) – The Nichols Men's Soccer team traveled to Biddeford, Maine, for their first away CNE conference match up of the season. Nothing could separate the two sides, as the Bison and Nor'easter battled through a tough, defensive contest to earn a scoreless draw.

After the tie, the Bison move to 1-4-3 (0-1-1 CNE), while the University of New England moves to 0-4-2 (0-1-1 CNE).

It was a quiet first half as both teams tried to break down their opponent's tactics. Nichols recorded three shots on goal in the first half compared to the University of New England's two shots on target. Nichols' best chance of the half was Avery Morse's in the 11th minute, when he found himself open for a sharp angle shot that forced a good save by the UNE's keeper. The teams went into the half at 0-0.

The second half started off the same as the first half, and it wasn't until the 80th minute that action started to pick up. In the 88th minute, Avery Morse played a through ball to William Pugliese-Savage which he tried to slot into the side netting, but the UNE's goalkeeper made a fantastic diving save to keep it at 0-0.

Senior Derek Axon's best save of the game came in the 90th minute, when he came out of his 6 yard box with 5 seconds left in the game to make a huge save to keep the game scoreless. Derek Axon recorded his second clean sheet in a row and made two saves in the match.

Nichols men's soccer team will have to wait a week before their next contest, where they will host Western New England University at the Nichols College Soccer Field for their homecoming match. Time of kick off is set for 12 PM.
