DUDLEY, Mass. (9/11/25) - The Nichols College women's tennis team faced off against UMass Boston in their home opener at the Robinson Tennis Courts. Following a hard fought non-conference match up the Bison saw victory with a score of 4-3.
The win gives the Bison their second win of the season and a record of 2-0. The Beacons record levels out at 1-1 following the loss.
Due to a win by default on the No. 3 doubles court the Bison were relying on a win on both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts for the point, which was ultimately claimed by the visiting Beacons. Captain and co-captain
Charis Vogler and
Cora Brosch won the No. 2 doubles court to start the competition with a score of 6-3.
Kamora Helton and
Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi came close in a win-by-two situation on the No. 1 court but ended up losing 7-5.
Down 0-1 for singles, the Bison claimed victories in two sets at the top four positions. Gonzalez Vallardi was first to finish, posting an impressive score for both sets 6-0, 6-1 to claim the No. 3 position. Brosch then marked 6-1, 6-0 to claim the No. 4 court, followed by a 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 2 court for Vogler. In a match containing traded blows throughout the previous finishes, Helton was able to win the No. 1 position and ultimately seal the score coming off a 6-3, 6-2 win.
The women's tennis team travel for the Bryant University Tournament to participate across September 13th and 14th and will have their first go at conference play for the season at Western New England University on September 16th.
