Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Ramsay, Bison Earn First Win Over Anna Maria, 5-0

DUDLEY, Mass. (9/11/2025) - The Nichols College field hockey team posted its first win of the season in shutout fashion as the Bison topped Anna Maria College, 5-0, on Thursday night at Vendetti Field.

The Bison are now 1-3 on the season, while Anna Maria dips to 1-3 overall. The win also comes as the first in the career of first-year head coach, Kelsey Ramsay.

The teams battled through a scoreless opening frame before Nichols put home three second quarter goals to put the game out of reach by the half. Sophia Calabro tallied the first goal of the contest just 1:28 into the period, assisted by freshman Lily Gibson, followed by Taylor Breen's first of the season seven minutes later off a pass from Asya Osei-Opoku to make it 2-0. Gibson then added a goal of her own just over 30-seconds after Breen's tally, the first of her collegiate career from Katherine Hearn, completing Nichols' three-goal quarter.

The Bison tightened their grip in the third quarter, adding on another pair of goals to bring their lead to 5-0, ultimately proving enough for the shutout win. The first of the two came off the stick of Hearn 4:41 into the frame, followed by Kaelyn Casper just 29 seconds after that, with Breen and Osei-Opoku contributing the helpers. For Hearn and Casper both, their lone strikes were equally their first goals of the season.

The Bison dominated the game offensively with a 28-5 differential in shots, as well as a lopsided 12-1 edge in penalty corners.

In the cage, freshman Jessa Altemose earned both her first collegiate win and shutout, logging just one save through the full 60 minutes.

The Bison travel to Bristol, Rhode Island for their conference opener at Roger Williams University on Saturday, September 13th. Game start is set for 1:00 PM at Bayside Field.
