Baseball Cruises Past Curry on Senior Day

DUDLEY, Mass. (5/2/2025) – The Nichols College baseball team plated 37 runs in their smashing of the Curry College Colonels on Friday afternoon in a sweep in Conference of New England (CNE) play to secure the second seed in the Conference playoffs. Nichol ran away with game one, 25-3 and then won 12-2 in game two.

The Nichols College Division of Athletics and the Baseball Program honored the team's 15 seniors.  Taj Vera Cruz, Nolan Sullivan, Stanley Cipkas, Salvatore D'Anna, Sean Ryan, Karl Miller, Clark Churchill, John Steed, Patrick Doyle, Andrew Steinhubel, Luis Vargas, Jacob Tipton, Richard Pignone, Tyler Moniz-Witten, and manager Ben Donovan.

Freshman Collin Harty went 5-8 with 10 RBI two doubles and two home runs to pace the Bison. Junior Liam Flynn went 4-4 in game one adding five RBI and three runs scored for the Bison. Freshman Ryan Keating was 3-3 in game one as well for the Bison, while adding a two-run home run in game two.

Game 1: Nichols 25 Curry 3 (7 Innings)

The Bison opened the first inning, with a bang, scoring eight runs on eight hits. Flynn doubled with senior Ben Jerome and Keating on base, scoring both runners in the process for a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Adam Pivacek singled through the left side and scored Flynn on a fielding error, making it 3-0. Harty then doubled to center field, scoring Pivacek and sophomore Anthony Hackert. Four straight singles scored three more runs for an 8-0 Bison lead after one inning.

Curry responded with a pair of runs in the top half of the second. Nichols answered once again, this time with three runs in the inning, making it 11-8 Bison, highlighted with Harty's three-run home run, and first of the game. Nichols blew the game wide open in the third inning, when Harty capped a five-run inning, with his second home run of the game.

Nichols went on to win 25-3 in the game, the 25 runs is the fifth most runs scored in a game in Program history. Senior Karl Miller also recorded his 100th career hit in the sixth inning of game one.

Senior John Steed (8-1) earned his eighth win of the season, throwing 5.0 innings with four strikeouts and allowing three runs in the win.

Game 2: Nichols 12 Curry 2 (7 Innings)

Game two started much slower for both team, but the Bison plated six runs in the second inning, including a Keating two run home run to cap the six run inning. Nichols continued to pour it on with runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh inning to invoke the conference's run rule.

Senior Tyler Moniz-Witten (4-1) earned his fourth win of the season, throwing 5.0 innings adding six strikeouts.

Nichols (24-15, 11-5 CNE) secured the second seed in the CNE Tournament, and will wrap up their regular season on Sunday, May 4th, as they welcome Wheaton College (Mass.) to the Nichols Baseball Field. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
