BOSTON, Mass. (4/6/25) – A well-rounded team effort helped Nichols Softball sweep the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards in CNE action on Sunday afternoon in Boston. The Bison took game one 3-1, before winning game two 3-2 in extra innings.
With the win, Nichols improved to 17-5 (5-1 CNE) this season.
Game 1: Nichols 3, Wentworth 1
The Bison relied on a team effort to take game one of the series by a 3-1 score. Seven different Bison recorded at least one hit, with junior Ava Slavinsky and senior Chloe Steiniger each recording two.
Junior Allie Silliman and freshman Alyssa Pericello each recorded a double, and senior Erin Gour had a triple in game one.
The scoring for the Bison was opened in the top of the 2nd as junior Bailey Littlefield had an RBI single up the middle, sending Steiniger home for the black and green. The Leopards would go on to add a run of their own in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game up 1-1.
In the top of the 5th, the Bison regained the lead thanks to a RBI ground out to the shortstop by Gour, and Pericello's RBI double. The Bison held that 3-1 lead for the rest of the game to take the win.
In the circle, senior Chelsea Indyk pitched her 11th complete game of the season, improving to 10-2 this year. She allowed just 1 earned run and stuck out 5 batters with 0 walks.
Game 2: Nichols 3, Wentworth 2
Game two took extra innings to be decided as the Bison edged out the Leopards 3-2 to complete the afternoon sweep.
Nichols jumped out to a 2-0 lead off two singles from junior Bailey Littlefield in the top of the 2nd and 6th innings. Those two hits led the Bison in game two. Junior Riley Chartier, sophomore Kyla Felicani, and freshman Alyssa Pericello also record hits in the contest.
Wentworth responded with two runs of their own in the 6th and 7th innings to tie the game up 2-2 and force extra innings.
In the 8th inning, pinch runner junior Mary Jo-Laudati was placed on second base. She advanced to third off a sacrifice bunt from opening batter senior Erin Gour, placing her in scoring position. On the next at-bat, a fielding error from the Leopards shortstop allowed Pericello to reach first and Jo-Laudati to score the game's winning run.
The Bison would hold down the lead in the bottom of the 8th to secure their 3-2 win and push their winning streak to four.
In the circle, freshman Molly Medor got the start, pitching the five innings. She struck out one batter and allowed just one earned run. Senior Chelsea Indyk came in the close, striking out one batter and having 0 earned runs in three innings pitched. The win moves Indyk to 11-2 this season.
Nichols now returns home for a doubleheader matchup against non-conference opponent Clark University on Tuesday, April 8th. The game will serve as the Softball program's staff and faculty games and will begin at 3 pm in Dudley.
