WENHAM, Mass. (4/10/25) – In a midweek matchup against hometown Gordon College, the Nichols softball team extended its winning streak to six, sweeping both games of the doubleheader. The Bison took game one, 7-2 and secured a 6-4 extra-inning victory in game two.
With the sweep, Nichols improves to 19-5 overall (7-1 CNE) on the season.
Game 1: Nichols 7, Gordon 2
The Bison opened the scoring in the first inning when senior
Emma West-Testo doubled, allowing freshman designated player
Alyssa Pericello to cross the plate and give Nichols a 1-0 lead. Gordon responded with two runs in the bottom of the second to take a brief lead.
In the third, a fielding error on senior
Erin Gour's at-bat allowed junior
Ava Slavinsky to score the tying run. Senior
Chloe Steiniger followed with an RBI single that brought junior
Allie Silliman home, putting Nichols back in front.
Nichols added some cushion in the top of the fifth when Steiniger and junior
Bailey Littlefield each launched two-run home runs—their first of the season—extending the lead to 7-2.
That would be all the offense Nichols needed, as the Bison held Gordon scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Senior
Chelsea Indyk earned her 12th win of the season in the circle, pitching a complete game. She allowed zero earned runs and struck out two.
Game 2: Nichols 6, Gordon 4 (8 innings)
The second game began with an offensive burst from both sides in the first inning. Nichols put up three runs with an RBI single from Silliman, an RBI triple by Steiniger, and an RBI double from sophomore designated player
Sydney Manzione. Gordon answered with three of its own in the bottom of the frame, tying the game at 3-3.
The game settled into a pitcher's duel until the sixth inning, when junior
Riley Chartier singled to bring sophomore
Kyla Felicani home and reclaim the lead for the Bison. Gordon again responded with an RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.
After a scoreless seventh, the game headed into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, with two outs and the bases loaded, Gour singled through the left side, bringing West-Testo home. Steiniger followed with a single up the middle to score Chartier and give Nichols a 6-4 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on second, Nichols held firm, retiring the side in order to seal the win.
Three pitchers took the mound for Nichols in game two. Freshman
Molly Medor got the start but was relieved by sophomore
Ally McNamee before the end of the first inning. McNamee tossed a season-high 4.2 innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out one. Indyk returned to the circle to close the game, striking out two in 2.2 innings and allowing no earned runs, keeping her ERA at 0.00 for the day. She earned the win, improving to 13-2 on the season.
The Bison return to action on Tuesday in Dudley, hosting Curry College for a CNE doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
