DUDLEY, Mass. (4/15.2025) – The storyline was a split in a Conference of New England softball doubleheader between the Curry College Colonels and Nichols College Bison on Tuesday afternoon in Dudley. Nichols took game one 6-0, before falling in game two, 6-2.
Game 1: Nichols 6, Curry 0
Game one remained scoreless through the first three and a half innings, with strong pitching from Nichols senior starter
Chelsea Indyk setting the tone.
The Bison offense broke through in the bottom of the third with a five-run explosion on five hits. Junior
Ava Slavinsky started the rally with a single to right that moved two runners and brought junior
Bailey Littlefield home for the game's first run. A wild pitch allowed senior
Emma West-Testo to score, extending the lead to 2-0. RBI singles from senior
Chloe Steiniger and junior
Allie Silliman made it 4-0, and a heads-up baserunning play during a rundown allowed Steiniger to score the fifth run of the inning.
Nichols added one more in the fifth with another RBI single from Silliman to seal the 6-0 shutout.
Indyk was dominant once again, pitching her 13th complete game of the season. She struck out six and posted her fourth straight outing with a 0.00 ERA, improving to 14-2 on the year.
Game 2: Curry 6, Nichols 2
Nichols got on the board early in game two with a solo home run from reigning CNE Player of the Week
Chloe Steiniger in the first inning. However, a rain delay in the top of the third stalled the momentum.
Once play resumed, Curry took control. The Colonels grabbed a 2-1 lead on a two-run double. Nichols tied it up in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly from Steiniger that scored
Emma West-Testo.
Defensive miscues in the fifth and sixth innings hurt the Bison, as a throwing error brought in two Curry runs, and a fielding error tacked on two more in the sixth to give the Colonels a 6-2 lead that held.
Freshman
Molly Medor and sophomore
Ally McNamee split pitching duties in game two. Medor allowed just one hit in 2.2 innings, while McNamee struck out three and allowed no earned runs in 4.1 innings of relief.
Nichols returns home for a doubleheader against the University of Hartford this Friday, April 18, with first pitches scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Dudley.
