Miller Powers Bison Past Anna Maria

DUDLEY, Mass. (4/28/2025) – Behind four hits, including a grand slam, senior Karl Miller paced the Nichols College Baseball team to a 12-0 win over non-conference opponent Anna Maria on Monday afternoon from the Nichols Baseball Field.

Miller finished the day going 4-4 with three singles and a grand slam. He added five RBI and two runs scored to lead all players. Teammate Andrew Croteau chipped in with a pair of RBIs on a 2-4 day.

Miller scored freshman Ryan Keating in the first inning, to open the scoring and take a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Anthony Hackert scored on a wild pitch in the second inning after reaching on a single to center earlier in the inning. Nichols led 2-0 after two innings.

The Bison plated two more runners in the third inning too. Senior Ben Jerome reached on a hit-by-pitch, stole second and then advanced on a ground out. He was scored with a Liam Flynn sacrifice-fly. Croteau later singled up the middle, scoring Miller from third base to lead 4-0.

In the fourth inning, Miller added to his two-for-two day, with a grand slam to center field, doubling the Bison lead to 8-0 after four innings of action. Nichols failed to score in the fifth inning and added four more runs in the sixth inning to lead 12-0.

Jerome reached on a walk and Keating on an error, and a wild pitch put both Nichols' runners in scoring position. Flynn then reached on a fielding error and score both Keating and Jerome, making it 10-0 Bison. Croteau, once again singled to center, scoring junior Kyle Birks, who pinch ran for Flynn in the inning. Senior Luis Vargas then lifted a sacrifice-fly to center field, and scored senior Stan Cipkas from third, who was pinch running for Miller.

Nichols invoked the 10-run rule in the top of the seventh, after turning a game ending double play in the inning.

The Bison defense held, the AMCATs to just four hits. Senior Sean Ryan (1-1) earned his first win of the year for Nichols on the mound, while freshman Tim Hudson and Josh Warming saw valuable time out of the pen in relief.

Ryan threw 5.0 innings, allowing one hit and striking out two. Hudson went one inning, allowing one hit and fanning one. Warming saw the final inning for Nichols.

Nichols (21-14, 8-5) will travel to Springfield, Mass. for a Conference of New England (CNE) match-up against Western New England. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
