WEYMOUTH, Mass. (4/25/2025) – Behind a pair of home runs and a complete game in game one, combined with excellent pitching and timely hitting in game two, the Nichols College Baseball team swept the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Conference of New England (CNE) action from Libby field. Nichols won game one 4-2 and game two 6-2.
Sophomore
Adam Pivacek and senior
Andrew Croteau each hit home runs in game one. Sophomore
Anthony Hackert recorded a game high two RBI in game two to help secure the win.
Game 1: Nichols 4 Wentworth 2 (7 Innings)
The Bison opened the scoring in the top of the first inning and didn't look back as they rolled to a 4-2 win over Wentworth in game one. Freshman
Ryan Keating singled to third base and then junior
Liam Flynn reached on a fielder's choice and Keating reached second on an error to place runners on first and second.
Pivacek then launched a three-run home run to left center field for a 3-0 Bison lead after the first half inning. The home team got one run back in the bottom of the second, cutting into the Nichols lead. In the top of the fourth inning, Croteau hit his second home run of his career and first one since 2022. Nichol led 4-1 after four innings.
The Leopards scored one more run in the fifth inning, but senior
John Steed (6-1), closed the door on the home team, throwing a complete game to earn his sixth win of the season for the Bison and took game one.
Game 2: Nichols 6 Wentworth 2 (8 Innings)
The Leopards jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after two innings of play. That was all the offense Wentworth was able to muster before the Bison defense and offense began to flex their muscles. Nichols pulled level in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
Senior
Karl Miller grounded out with the bases loaded to score teammate
Ben Jerome after three straight Bison singles to open the inning. Pivacek then singled, scoring Keating and evening the score 2-2 after four innings.
Neither team was able to gain any more ground until Nichols loaded the bases in the eighth inning. Sophomore
Anthony Hackert singled to right field, scoring two runs, as the Bison led 4-2. Hackert and Croteau then both score on a wild pitch, making it 6-2 headed to the bottom half of the inning.
Nichols hung on to sweep Wentworth in Conference action with a 6-2 win in eight innings. Sophomore
Allen Hinckley threw 1.0 inning, before senior
Tyler Moniz-Witten (3-1) came in and threw 7.0 scoreless innings to earn the win for the Bison, while allowing three hits and striking out two.
Nichols (20-14, 8-5 CNE) will return to action on Monday, when they welcome Anna Maria to the Nichols Baseball Field for non-conference action. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
