Men’s Tennis Seizes Conference Win at Gordon, 6-1

WENHAM, Mass. (4/2/2025) – The Nichols College men's tennis team picked up a 6-1 Conference of New England (CNE) victory over Gordon College Tuesday afternoon, extending their win streak to three consecutive matches.

The Bison improve to 3-9 (3-0 CNE) overall, while the Fighting Scots fall to 6-6 (2-2 CNE).

Nichols cleaned up in doubles by grabbing all three matches for the opening point. Caio Deickmann and Richard Hartmann Luzio started things off with a 6-1 victory at the top position, which was followed by an identical victory on court three from Leon Zeis and Rodolfo Hernandez. Enzo Matos Balleux and partner Kerem Subasi made it three-for-three with a win at the No. 2 position, defeating their opponent, 6-4.

It was a near sweep for the Bison in singles play, but the Fighting Scots managed a point on the afternoon with victory at the No. 5 position. However, all other matchups went in favor of the guests, beginning with Hartmann Luzio's win at No. 1 singles with a 7-5, 6-3 showing. Jose Nunez, court neighbor at No. 2 singles, decisively bested his opponent in straight sets (6-1, 6-0), while Zeis won on court three by scores of 6-1, and 6-3. Matos Balleux also outbattled his foe at No. 4 singles by a set scores of 6-2, 6-3, before Felipe Gonzalez took the win at No. 6 singles in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 11-9) to wrap up the afternoon.

Men's tennis will split up this upcoming Saturday, April 5th with the team hosting conference opponent Suffolk University (0-7, 0-4 CNE) at 11:00 AM, while others will travel to Poughkeepsie, New York and the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center to face Vassar College (5-6, 3-0 Liberty), with a same start time. The home match for the Bison will be held at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
