Men’s Tennis Shut Out by No. 9 Bowdoin, 7-0

BRUNSWICK, Maine (4/19/2025) – The Nichols College men's tennis team saw its five-game win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 shutout loss at No. 9 Bowdoin College in non-conference play.

The Bison move to 9-12 (8-0 CNE) with the loss, while the ranked Polar Bears improve to 12-4 (6-2 NESCAC) with the win.

Bowdoin opened the afternoon with wins at all three doubles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3, respectively.

However, results did not come so easily for the Polar Bears in singles competition, as the Bison put up a solid fight at the top three courts. At No. 1, senior Richard Hartmann Luzio came up just short in the first set of a 6-4, 6-1 loss at the top flight, while junior Jose Nunez battled through a tight 7-5, 6-1 loss at No. 2 singles. Senior Leon Zeis, Nichols' No. 3 singles player, claimed a 7-6 victory in his respective first set, but fell in the next two by scores of 6-2 and 10-6 in a three-set tiebreaker. The Polar Bears cleaned up with wins at the remaining three courts, completing the sweep.

With the regular season winding down, the Bison have one more match to play on Tuesday, April 22nd against Roger Williams University (17-1, 8-0 CNE). The start of the battle of the CNE's top two programs will be announced at a later time, with the match being played at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
