SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (4/18/2025) – The Nichols College men's tennis team earned a dominant 7-0 victory over conference opponent Western New England University on Saturday afternoon at the Volvo Tennis Courts.
The Bison improve to 9-10 (8-0 CNE) on the season with their fifth consecutive win, while the Golden Bears fall to 5-9 (2-7 CNE).
Nichols quickly took control in doubles play, sweeping all three courts. Freshman duo
Rodolfo Hernandez and
Alexander Snitko led the way with a closely contested 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles, followed by
Joshua Alarcon and
Jose Nunez' 6-4 victory at No. 2 to clinch the available point. The second freshman tandem of
Felipe Gonzalez and
Mason Harris completed the doubles sweep for the Bison, winning 6-1 at the No. 3 flight.
The Bison carried the momentum into singles play, claiming straight-set wins at all six positions. Nunez started it off with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Gonzalez followed suit with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court No. 2. Hernandez (7-5, 6-2), Alarcon (6-3, 6-2) and Harris (6-2, 6-1) were also successful in claiming their second wins on the day at the No. 3, No.4 and No. 6 positions respectively, while freshman Hugo Cote rounded out the list with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.
Nichols hits the road for a non-conference tilt at Bowdoin College (12-3, 6-3 NESCAC) on Saturday, April 19
th. Match time is set for 3:00 PM at the Pickard Tennis Courts.
