MILTON, Mass. (4/12/2025) – The Nichols College women's lacrosse doubled-up conference opponent Curry College on Saturday afternoon, winning by a final score of 18-9 at Katz Field.
The Bison end a three-game skid and improve to 9-2-1 (3-2-1 CNE) overall on the season. The Colonels, with the loss, drop to 4-10 (1-5 CNE).
Senior
Hadley Houghton produced nine points in the Bison win, scoring four goals with five assists, in addition to setting a new program record for single-game draw controls, notching 17 in total. Classmates
McKenzie Muir and
Kristen Ruby provided three points apiece, along with combining for nine ground balls, while
Gabriella Mandirola,
Emma Patton and
Sienna Reeves each scored twice. Reeves also had a team-high three caused turnovers in the win.
Junior goalkeeper
Briar Slattery (9-2-1) made nine saves for the win, while
Kaleigh Seal stopped two in support.
The Bison ran away with the lead early in the contest, outscoring the Colonels by a 6-1 margin in the first quarter. Ruby opened the scoring at the 13:35 of the period, unassisted, which was then followed by goals from Muir and Houghton to make it 3-0 Bison, with the two players also assisting the others' goal. Ruby then fired home two more goals to make it a 5-0 score, before Curry finally broke through with a man-down goal at 3:10. Houghton then added one more goal prior to the end of the frame.
The Colonels turned up the heat in the second quarter, but struggled to slow the Bison attack, with Nichols furthering their lead to 10-4 by halftime. Houghton and Mandirola continued to add to their totals on the afternoon, while Reeves scored her first of the day at the 11:07 mark.
Makala Dube also found the back of the net for her lone goal of the game, connecting off a pass from Houghton at 6:43. The final two goals of the quarter belonged to Curry.
Coming out of the break, the Bison picked up right where they left off as Patton tallied her only goal of the game with 9:15 on the clock. Muir followed with her second goal, again assisted by Houghton to make it 12-4 Bison, until the Colonels started to swing the momentum, scoring the next two goals to pull back within six. Nichols countered with two goals of their own in the final 15 seconds, both of which were a man-down from Mandirola and Ali Vozzo.
Nichols finished the game with a 4-3 advantage in the fourth quarter, finalizing the 18-9 win.
Next up, the Bison will return home to host Roger Williams University (6-6, 4-1 CNE) for a 7:00 PM start at Vendetti Field.
