Anthony Hackert, the Nichols College Baseball team topped Rhode Island College, 5-3 in non-conference play on Friday afternoon from the Nichols Baseball Field.
Jerome was 3-4 with an RBI, while Hackert also tallied three hits, while scoring a run and adding an RBI.
Neither team was able to catch any traction early one with a handful of three and four batter innings, with no runs scored. The Bison cashed in first with a five run fourth inning to open the game up.
Senior
Karl Miller opened the inning with a walk, before sophomore
Adam Pivacek singled through the left side to place runners on first and second with no outs. Junior
Julian Galvan then batted and reached on a fielding error on the pitch, scoring Miller in the process.
Hackert then singled back up the middle and scored Pivacek. A double to right field off the bat of freshman
Collin Harty, added another run and the Bison led 3-0. Freshman Bryce Morrissette who earned his first collegiate start, laid down a sac bunt to scored Hackert from third. Jerome then added the fifth run of the inning with a single to right field, scoring Harty.
The Anchormen added a run back in the top of the fifth inning ending Hinckley's shut-out bid. RIC added two more runs in the seventh inning, with two scoring on an error, making it 5-3 Bison.
The Bison looked to the bullpen and saw senior
Nolan Sullivan work his way out of the inning, with the help of junior
Nicholas Willand. Sullivan shut down the Anchormen bats for the final 2.0 innings, earning his first save of the season and securing the Bison win.
Hinckley (2-1) grabbed his second win of the season, throwing 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and striking out four batters. Willand threw 0.1 innings and Sullivan (1) recorded the save with 2.2 innings thrown, with two strikeouts and allowing one hit.
Nichols (13-11, 4-4 CNE) will have some time off before returning to the diamond on Tuesday, April 15th, when they travel to Trinity College. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
