DUDLEY, Mass. (4/10/2025) – Despite a two-run 10
th inning, the Nichols College Baseball team dropped a non-conference match-up against the University of St. Joseph's on Thursday afternoon. The Bison lost 11-10 to the Blue Jays, as they celebrated Mission Stadiums for Multiple Sclerosis (MS4MS) pregame.
Senior
Andrew Croteau batted 3-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Junior
Julian Galvan was 3-6 with three RBI and freshman
Ryan Keating also added a multi-hit day, going 2-5 with a run scored in the loss.
The Blue Jays opened the scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Nichols answered with a run of their own, when junior
Liam Flynn grounded out and scored senior
Ben Jerome who walked to lead off the inning.
In the second inning, two more runs came across for the visitors, and then they tacked on one more in the third to lead 6-1 after three innings of play. The Bison plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth, to cut into the Blue Jays lead. Three singles in the inning, scored senior
Karl Miller from third, and then Croteau scored on a passed ball to make it 6-3.
The Blue Jays added some insurance in the eighth inning, with two more runs, re-establishing the five-run lead, 8-3. A five-run fifth inning for the Bison pulled them level with USJ.
A walk and a fielder's choice put runners on first and second with one out. Keating then walked to load the bases. Flynn lifted a sac-fly to center field, scoring freshman
Collin Harty. Miller reached on a throwing error, plating another Bison run, than sophomore
Adam Pivacek also reached on another error to score Keating. Nichols trailed 8-6. An RBI single from Croteau and Galvan evened the score at 8-8.
The game needed extras, after neither team found runs in the ninth. In the 10
th, the Blue Jays scored three runs on four hits to take a commanding three-run lead, 11-8.
The Bison did not go away quietly, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the 10
th, but were unable to find the tying run, and lost 11-10 to the Blue Jays.
Sophomore
Will Lally earned the start. Throwing 1.0 inning and allowing three runs. The Bison went to the bullpen often, throwing seven total pitchers. Senior
Tyler Moniz-Witten (2-1) shouldered the loss for the Bison, allowing three runs on f7ur hits in the 10
th inning.
Nichols (12-11, 4-4 CNE) will stay home and face-off against Rhode Island College, on Friday afternoon from the Nichols Baseball Field. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
