Game Recap: Softball |

Bison Top Gettysburg in Opening Day Split

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (3/9/25) – As they opened their 2025 season in Florida, the Nichols College Softball team finished with a 1-1 record on the day, with a win against Gettysburg (PA) and a loss to Carthage (WI).

Game 1 vs Carthage College

In the opener against Carthage, the Bison found themselves down by two runs in the second inning. In the third, a single to center field from senior Chloe Steiniger brought Emily Iannuccilli home, securing the Bison's first run of the season. Carthage would add a run of their own in the third, which proved to be the game-winner. An absolute bullet from Erin Gour to deep right field resulted in a triple, and Steiniger scored a run for the Bison in the 5th inning.

On the mound for the Bison was freshman Molly Medor, who, in her debut, pitched a complete game, allowing 8 hits and 3 earned runs. She also struck out 2.

The game marked the second all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Bison also falling to Carthage in 2009.

Game 2 vs Gettysburg College

The quick turnaround had the Bison right back at it against Gettysburg College. The Bullets scored in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

The Bison shined in the 5th inning as Ava Slavinsky singled on the right side, sending pinch hitter Hannah Cozza home and knotting the game at 1. In the same inning, freshman Sarah Dupre, in her debut, stole home as Slavinsky got caught in a rundown, allowing Dupre to score.

On the mound for the Bison in game two was senior captain Chelsea Indyk, who was sensational, earning her first win of the season by allowing one earned run and striking out 7.

In her at-bat in the second inning, senior Erin Gour was hit by a pitch, advancing to set a new Bison record with 21 career hit-by-pitches. She passed former teammate McKenzie Jackson, who previously held the record.

The Bison are back in action tomorrow, Monday, March 10th, with a doubleheader against Thomas College and Husson University, both out of Maine. The games are set for 2:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. at the DiamondPlex in Winter Haven.
