Softball Splits with Maine's Thomas and Husson in Florida

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (3/10/2025) – In their second day of action at the 2025 Spring Games in Florida, the Nichols College Bison Softball program earned a split with a 9-2 win over Thomas College in the opener, before falling by a 5-3 final in the closer to Husson University.
With the split, the Bison shift to 2-2 on the season.

Game #1 vs Thomas College

The Bison bats ran hot in the first inning, as Nichols peppered the Thomas defense for five runs. Erin Gour drove in the first via a sacrifice fly-out to left field, bringing in Ava Slavinsky from third with the bases loaded. Allie Silliman quickly made it a 2-0 score in the next at-bat, scoring a run with an RBI base hit to right, before freshman Alyssa Pericello introduced herself with her own RBI single to make it 3-0 Bison, the first RBI of her collegiate career in her debut at the plate. The scoring streak would wrap up with sophomore outfielder Kyla Felicani, who brought two more home with a double to the left-center gap, giving the Bison their 5-0 cushion.

Following a scoreless second, the Bison returned to their scoring ways in the top of the third as Silliman led off the inning with a double to right-center, before making her way home on a fielding error by the Thomas second baseman on contact from Pericello, chalking up her second RBI of the day. Then, with two on and one out, the Bison added their seventh run of the ballgame on a single up the middle, courtesy of Slavinsky.

The Terrirers broke the shutout bid in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a Bison error with two outs to plate their first run of the contest. However, the Bison continued to find ways to score, as Gour hopped the fence for a ground-rule double early in the sixth, scoring Slavinsky, before scoring herself on an RBI double from Silliman to bring the score to 9-2.

The Terriers would add one more in the sixth, but the Bison defense would close it out before any more damage could be dealt, securing the 7-2 victory.

Freshman pitcher Molly Medor (1-1) earned her first collegiate win in the circle, pitching all seven innings with six strikeouts, and only one earned run allowed on 10 hits. The Bison, in turn, made contact 14 times against the Terriers.

Game #2 vs Husson University

After a lengthy opening game, the Bison went right back into action against a tough ranked Husson team. In the first inning of the contest, the Eagles scored two runs to jump ahead of the Bison, 2-0. Those runs were both unearned, as both runners received a boost from a Bison fielding error.

In the second inning, the Bison answered right back as Kyla Felicani blasted a base hit to left-center field, allowing enough time for teammate Allie Silliman to sneak home and put the Bison on the board.

Husson would continue on to add three unanswered runs; two in the 3rd and one in the 5th to go up on the Bison 5-1.
However, the last two runs of the game belonged to the Bison. The first came from a single by Slavinsky out to right field, bringing Riley Chartier around to score. With that run under her belt and in the final seventh inning, Chartier put a SAC fly into left that saw Kyla Felicani score the last run of the game, but to no avail as Husson held on to take the game 5-3.
Senior pitcher Chelsea Indyk (1-1) got her second start of the season, pitching all seven innings with six strikeouts, and three earned runs allowed on nine hits.

The Bison now enjoy a day off in the sunshine state, before they return to action on Wednesday, March 12th. They have matchups with Bowdoin College and The College of St. Scholastica.
