Baseball Topples Wesleyan, 9-5

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (3/26/2025) – The Nichols College Baseball team exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning and didn't look back as they secured a non-conference weekday win over Wesleyan College. The Bison won 9-5 from the Dresser Diamond on Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman Ryan Keating finished the game going 4-5 with a solo home run, two RBI, and two runs scored to lead all Bison hitters. Senior Ben Jerome chipped in with two hits and sophomore Anthony Hackert also plated two RBI.

A scoreless first inning, saw Nichols open the scoring in the second inning. Keating launched a home run to right field to take a 1-0 lead. This was Keating's first collegiate home run in his young career. Back-to-back singles saw the Bison have runners on second and third base. Senior Andrew Croteau hit a sac-fly to center field, scoring freshman Collin Harty and doubling the Bison lead, 2-0.

Nichols carried a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, before Wesleyan evened the score with a 2 RBI triple to right center field. In the top of the seventh inning, Nichols exploded for seven runs. Nichols plated seven runners on five hits, including five walks as well. Nichols led 9-2 half-way through the seventh inning.

The Cardinals hung around, with three runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh inning. Neither team scored the rest of the way and the Bison shut down the Cardinals to secure back-to-back wins with a 9-5 Nichols win.

Senior Salvatore D'Anna threw 4.0 scoreless innings, while teammate Patrick Doyle (2-0) secured his second win of the season, throwing 2.0 innings of relief, allowing four hits and striking out two batters. Freshman Josh Warming saw action, and senior John Steed saw 2.2 innings of action to close out the game, allowing one hit and six strike outs.

Nichols (7-6) will continue their road trip, as they travel to the New England Baseball Complex and face-off against non-conference opponent, WPI. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. from NEBC Field 3.
