NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. (3/27/2025) – The Nichols College Baseball team dropped a Thursday afternoon non-conference game against the WPI Engineers from the New England Baseball Complex. The Bison lost 11-2.
Senior
Andrew Croteau went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the way for the Bison. Junior
Liam Flynn and freshman
Collin Harty each doubled in the game.
The Engineers opened the scoring with a six run second inning, to blow the game wide open. A handful of walks and three hits, including an error, scored six runs for WPI in the inning. In the top of the third inning, Nichols scored their first run of the game. Singles from Croteau and senior
Ben Jerome put runners on first and third. Junior
Julian Galvan grounded out to second but scored Croteau in the process.
WPI continued to score adding another run in the bottom of the third and then four runs in the sixth inning, taking an 11-1 lead to the seventh inning. A double from Harty and then an RBI single from Croteau, added the second Bison run.
The Engineers shut the Bison down, securing an 11-2 win. Senior
Sean Ryan (0-1) recorded the loss, after throwing 1.1 innings, allowing six runs (five earned), while striking out one. Freshman
Ashton Hammond threw 1.1 innings, senior
Richard Pignone threw a team high 1.2 innings and sophomore
Allen Hinckley also threw 1.2 innings for the Bison.
Nichols (7-7, 0-2) returns home to host Roger Williams University, in Conference of New England (CNE) play. First pitch from the Nichols Baseball Field is set for 11:30 a.m.
