Men's Tennis Swaps Results in Home Twin Bill

DUDLEY, Mass. (3/22/2025) – The Nichols College men's tennis program traded results in their first home appearance of the spring, narrowly falling to non-conference opponent Connecticut College, 4-3 before shutting out conference foe University of Saint Joseph, 7-0 at the Robinson Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon.

The Bison move to 2-9 (1-0 CNE) overall on the season.

Match #1 vs Connecticut College

The Camels secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. However, the Bison nearly came away with the available point, as a 6-3 triumph on court three from Kerem Subasi and Enzo Matos Balleux forced the result to come down to No. 1 doubles, where Caio Dieckmann and Richard Hartmann Zuzio came up just shy in a tiebreak (7-4), losing by a 7-6 score.

In singles, Connecticut College picked up wins on courts three and four, while the Bison claimed victory at the No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 positions. Dieckmann delivered a strong 6-2, 6-0 win for the Bison on court six, which was then followed by a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles by Jose Nunez. As was the case in doubles, a victory from Matos Balleux by matching scores of 6-2 at No. 5 singles tied the match score at 3-all, bringing all the attention to a decisive No. 1 singles showdown. However, despite a fierce battle, Hartmann Zuzio went down in three sets (6-0, 2-6, 4-6).

Match #2 vs University of Saint Joseph (CT)

The Bison shook off the early loss with a dominant effort in their second match of the day, which began with the hosts winning the doubles point with victories at all the positions.

The Bison then swept the six singles matchups, with four coming in straight sets to wrap up the 7-0 win. Nichols started it out with a default win on court six, before Matos Balleux downed his respective opponent, 6-1 and 6-0. Leon Zeis kept the ball rolling at No. 3 singles, also winning in two sets (6-1, 6-1), while Kerem Subasi gave Nichols a 5-0 match lead at No. 4 by way a 6-1, 6-3 decision. Hartmann Zuzio exacted some revenge a second time around, taking the win at No. 1 singles in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 10-5), just ahead of Nunez' lengthy victory at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-4) to close out the effort.

Next up, Nichols will pay a visit to Endicott College (3-4, 1-0 CNE) on Tuesday, March 25th. The conference match is set for a 3:00 PM at the South Campus Tennis Courts.
