NORTON, Mass. (3/20/2025) – The Nichols College baseball team dropped a non-conference match-up with Wheaton College on Thursday afternoon from James V. Sidell Stadium. The Bison lost 15-7 to the Lyons.
Junior
Liam Flynn went 3-4 on the day with a two-run home run, two doubles and a walk. Senior
Karl Miller chipped in with a 3-5 effort with a two-run home run for the Bison.
Senior
Ben Jerome stole his third base of the season, which set a new program record for career stolen bases (62). Jerome passed Cale Lacasse, who set the record in 2010 with 61 stolen bases.
The Lyons opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first and tacked on a run in the second and third inning as well for a 4-0 lead after three innings of work.
In the fifth inning, the Bison broke the Wheaton shutout with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Senior
Stanley Cipkas reached first with a walk and then scored on a single from teammate
Jacob Tipton. Senior
Luis Vargas then singled, scoring Tipton to make it 4-2 Lyons, headed to the bottom of the fifth.
Wheaton blew the game wide open with a crooked number in the bottom half of the inning and extended the lead to 13-2.
The Bison added more runs in the sixth inning. Flynn opened the inning with his second double, and Miller belted a home run, making it 13-4. Tipton continued his production from the plate and scored Hackert from third base with a fly-out. Nichols trailed 13-5 after the top half of the sixth inning.
Wheaton added another pair of runs in the seventh inning. Flynn homered in the ninth inning with a two run home run for his third of the season. Nichols lost 15-7 to the Lyons.
Freshman
Ashton Hammond (0-1) shouldered the loss for the Bison throwing 2.0 innings with two strikeouts. Teammate
Blake Alley threw 0.2 innings, facing five batters. Junior
Nicholas Willand also saw time on the mound.
Nichols (5-4) return home and kick off Conference of New England (CNE) play when they welcome in No.4 Endicott College to Dudley. First pitch from the Nichols Baseball Field is set for 11:30 a.m.
