NEW LONDON, Conn. (3/18/2025) – The Nichols College baseball team dropped a week-day non-conference game against Mitchell College from Alumni Field. The Bison lost 4-1 to the Mariners.

The Bison tallied five hits in the game, including an RBI double from Ben Jerome. Senior Andrew Croteau, junior Liam Flynn, and freshman Ryan Keating all added hits as well.

The Mariners broke the ice in the bottom of the third inning. A triple to right center kicked off the inning and then a ground out scored the runner from third for a 1-0 lead after the third inning. Mitchell added to their lead with a two-run home run to left center, making it 3-0 Mitchell after fifth inning.

The Bison answered in the top half of the sixth inning. Freshman Collin Harty walked to open the inning with one out. Keating then doubled to center field and advancing Harty to third base. Croteau grounded out but scored Harty in the process to end the shut out and trailed 3-1.

Mitchell added a run in the seventh inning, to regain the three-run lead, 4-1. In the eighth, the Bison offense did not go away. A pinch hit sac-fly from sophomore Anthony Hackert scored Keating. Jerome doubled to left field, scoring Croteau and the Bison trailed 4-3. More insurance from Mitchell, extended the lead to 5-3.

The Bison tried what they could in the top of the ninth inning but were unable to tie the game and lost 5-3 to Mitchell.
