Soracco Reaches 1,000-Kill Milestone in Loss at No. 11 Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. (3/18/2025) – The Nichols College men's volleyball program saw its five-match win streak snapped Tuesday following a hard-fought 3-1 loss at No. 11 Wentworth Institute of Technology inside Tansey Gymnasium. It was the second meeting this season between the two programs.

The Bison moving to 12-12 (3-0 NEVC) overall, while the Leopards jump to 18-4 (8-0 GNAC).

The match featured a major career milestone for graduate student outside hitter Tanner Soracco, who notched 11 total kills to eclipse 1,000 kills in his collegiate career, becoming the first player in program history to do so. Jack Normandin pitched in a double-double performance with 14 kills and 14 digs, while Chandler Olson set up the offense with 31 assists. The Bison finished the night hitting .096, connecting for 37 total kills.

The Bison fell behind early in the match as the Leopards took the win in the first set by a narrow 25-22 margin. However, Nichols took advantage of several Wentworth miscues early in the second set, resulting in a 10-5 lead for the Bison. From there, a pair of Normandin kills helped the Bison grow their lead to 14-8, before the two sides went point-for-point with each other over the next 11 rallies. With the score now at 19-14, another three Leopard errors as well as a Bradyn Pomainville service ace reinforced Nichols' lead to 23-14, ultimately leading the Bison to a 25-17 victory in the frame to tie the match at 1-1.

Nichols was forced to play from behind right out of the gate in the third set, with the Leopards taking an early 8-1 lead. However, the Bison didn't go down without a fight, as kills from Normandin, McCabe and Soracco helped them to pull within two points of the hosts midway through the frame at 16-14. Wentworth answered the Bison rally with a 6-1 run to add insurance to their lead, before continuing on to win the set, 25-19.

Wentworth wrapped it up in the final set with a 25-17 win after hitting .212 with 12 kills.

The Bison slide back into conference play on Saturday, March 22nd against in-state rival Endicott College (11-9, 3-1 NEVC). Opening serve is set for 1:00 PM at MacDonald Gymnasium in Beverly, Massachusetts.
