Men's Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match with Bard, Regis

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (3/15/2025) – The Nichols College men's volleyball team made it five in a row on Saturday afternoon, sweeping conference host Bard College (25-15, 25-16, 25-18) and non-conference opponent Regis College (25-16, 25-21, 25-23) in straight sets, 3-0 at the Bard Tri-Match inside the Stevenson Athletic Center.

The Bison move to 12-11 (3-0 NEVC) on the season.

Match #1 at Bard College

Against the Raptors, Adam Vincent led the attack with seven kills on .556 hitting. Conor McCabe delivered a solid performance both from the serve and at the net, notching four blocks with three aces, while Evan Sachs distributed a match-high 19 assists. Combined, the Bison totaled 31 kills on a .338 clip, as compared to Bard's 25 kills on .058 hitting.

Nichols never trailed in the first set, while errors plagued the Raptors in a lopsided 25-15 win for the Bison. However, things shifted to a more offensive focus for the visitors in the second set, as the Bison landed a combined seven service aces. With a 19-13 lead already in hand, Nichols fired off a quick 5-0 run late to push the score to set point at 24-13, which included two of Vincent's kills and a singular ace from McCabe, before a final attack error by the Raptors swung the winning point in favor of the Bison, giving them a 2-0 match lead.

Bard errors continued to define the outcome in the third set, as the Bison went on to certify the sweep via a 25-18 victory, with the winning point landing off a kill by Reece Baker.

Match #2 vs Regis College

Tanner Soracco led the way in the second match of the afternoon, posting 15 kills on .357 hitting with six digs. Jack Normandin also recorded double-figure kills, scoring 13 with seven digs and four service aces, while Chandler Olson handed out 36 assists as the top playmaker. Sachio Kekati bolstered the Bison backline, notching a career-high 12 digs. Nichols hit .337 against the Pride, going 47-of-95 with just 15 errors.

Leading 5-4 in the first set, a pair of kills by Soracco ignited a 11-4 run in favor of the Bison. During that stretch, Normandin also tallied four kills while the team capitalized on two Regis attack errors.  The Pride struggled to gain any ground the rest of the set, with Nichols eventually closing it out on a Pomainville kill to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Bison held the lead right from the get-go in the second set, and used a 7-2 run midway through the frame to claim an 18-12 advantage, capped off by an Olson kill. However, the Pride chipped away at the Bison lead with five unanswered points late in the action, closing the gap to just one point at 22-21, before Nichols closed out the set with their own 3-0 streak to win, 25-21.

Leading 2-0 in the match, Nichols finished off their two-for-two day with a 25-23 win in the third, fending off another late rally by Regis to complete the sweep of the Pride.

The Bison remain on the road for their next matchup on Tuesday, March 18th when they travel to No. 11 Wentworth Institute of Technology. Opening serve is set for 6:00 PM at Tansey Gymnasium.
