ARLINGTON, Va. (3/12/2025) – The Nichols College men's lacrosse team was unable to gain any traction in the second half at Marymount University on Wednesday afternoon, leading to a 9-5 setback against the host Saints at Long Bridge Park.
The Bison fall to 1-5 overall with the loss, while Marymount improves to 4-1.
Dylan DeRubeis notched his fifth multi-goal performance of the season, leading the way for the Bison with three goals and one caused turnover. Connor Doherty and
Jonah Libby each tallied goals for themselves, while
Travis Arnold went 7-of-17 from the faceoff with three ground balls.
Starting goalkeeper
Brady Morgan (1-4) stopped nine in the effort, logging 53 minutes in net, while
Carter Renaud made two saves in seven minutes of relief work.
The Saints netted the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 advantage just over seven minutes in. Nichols responded late in the first quarter, with Libby scoring the first of back-to-back Bison goals on a strong solo effort. The second belonged to Doherty, who scored on an equally impressive solo move to the front of the net, pulling the Bison to within one at 3-2 after one.
Nichols added two more goals in the third quarter, both unassisted and scored by DeRubeis, giving them a 4-3 edge over the Saints with 9:00 left in the half. However, Marymount countered to flip the lead back in their favor, closing out the half with a 3-0 run to lead 6-4 at halftime.
Marymount held the Bison scoreless in the third quarter, while adding two more goals to their lead at 7:53 and 2:59 of the period with the latter of the two coming a man-down. The Bison scoring drought continued into the fourth quarter, until DeRubeis broke the silence with his third of the day at 1:03 of the period, once more unassisted. However, Marymount also put up one more goal in the fourth, leading them to their eventual 9-5 win over the Bison.
