LEWISTON, Maine (3/1/2025) – It was a split-squad Saturday for the Nichols College men's tennis program, with the team dividing up two matches against Division I Binghamton University, and regional opponent Bates College. The Bison came up empty in both of the matchups, falling by matching scores of 7-0.
Nichols moves to 1-6 overall on the season.
Match #1 @ Bates College
Bates claimed wins on courts two and three in doubles play, claiming an early 1-0 match lead. However, it did not come easily for the Bobcats, as Nichols' seniors
Kerem Subasi and
Enzo Matos Balleux lost a narrow battle on court two, 7-5. Over on court three,
Rodolfo Hernandez and
Leon Zeis also kept things close, losing by a score of 6-4.
In singles play, Bates was victorious at all six positions, winning in straight sets in five-of-six matchups. The lone tiebreak performance fell on court two, where Nichols'
Richard Hartmann Zuzio battled back from a 6-4 loss in the first set to win in the second, 7-6, forcing a decisive third. Bates, regardless, went on to claim the win, completing their shutout performance.
Match #2 vs Binghamton University (@ Cumberland, R.I.)
Binghamton opened the match with a 1-0 lead, claiming the available doubles point. For the Bison, freshman
Felipe Gonzalez and
Mason Harris were first off the courts after a 6-0 loss at the top doubles position, right before No. 2 tandem of
Jose Nunez and
Oscar Junyent lost by a score of 6-2.
In singles play, Binghamton was straight-set winners in all six matches to finish out the win.
The Bison will have a week off before returning to action at Brandeis University (1-3) on Sunday, March 9
th. First serve against the Judges is set for 1:00 PM.
