Bison Split Weekend Series with Wildcats

Pawtucket, R.I. (2/1/2024) – The Nichols College Bison women's ice hockey team fell to the home side Johnson and Wales (Providence) Wildcats on Saturday evening CNE action in Rhode Island. The Wildcats took the game 3-1, and the two teams split the weekend home-and-home series 1-1.

With the loss, the Bison fall to 6-12-2 (3-8-2 CNE) on the year, and the Wildcats jump to 9-9-2 (6-6-1 CNE). The Bison took the season series between the two squads 2-1.

It was the Bison who opened the scoring just over a minute into the game as Anneliese Klein scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, with freshman Sienna Reeves and senior Melissa Montesi grabbing the assists.

Nichols' one goal lead would carry them into the break, as JWU would open their scoring midway through the second period of play. The game winner came from the Wildcats with just over five minutes to play in the game. With Nichols starting goalie McKenzie Muir on the bench for the extra attacker, the Wildcats secure the 3-1 win with a goal within the last minute of the game.

The senior netminder Muir was sensational in net for the Bison making 27 saves, as they were outshot by the home team 15-30. Senior Katherine Segalla led the way defensively for the Bison with 3 blocked shots. She sits second in the Conference of New England with 57 on the season.

The Bison are back in action on Friday, February 7th as they play host to CNE foe Endicott College. Puck drop is set for 4:40 PM at the Levy.
