CUMBERLAND, R.I. (2/1/2025) – The Nichols College men's tennis team was back in action for the first time in 2025 on Saturday evening but came up empty handed in a 7-0 loss to Youngstown State University at Fore Court Racquet & Tennis Club.

The Bison move to a 1-3 record on the year, while YSU remains undefeated at 4-0 overall.  

The Penguins went to work early in the match, securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions by respective scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
Needing three wins to clinch the match, the Penguins quickly extended their lead over the Bison with wins at the top three flights. Junior Jose Nunez contributed one of Nichols' strongest performances in singles play, hanging with opponent Chester Wickwire at the No. 4 position, forcing a third set after taking the win in the first, 7-5.  Nunez eventually fell in a narrow third set tiebreak by a 12-10 score.

Men's tennis will turn it right back around for a Sunday showdown with No. 25 Babson College (2-0, 2-0 NEWMAC) beginning at 2:30 PM in Cumberland, Rhode Island.
