DUDLEY, Mass. (11/22/2025) – With the help of a strong first half, the Nichols College women's basketball team took down Rivier University, 65-45 in non-conference play on Friday afternoon inside the Nichols Athletic Center.
The Bison improve to 4-1 (0-1 CNE) with the win, while Rivier drops to 0-6 with the loss.
Senior forward
Angie Coletti led the Bison offensive with 11 points, along with a full stat line of five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Graduate student
Summer Klein followed close behind with 10 points, four rebounds and two helpers, while
Adriana Romano controlled the board with six rebounds, alongside three assists also. The Bison shot 25-of-69 (36.2%) percent from the floor, while limiting the Raiders to just 18-of-61 (29.5%) percent on the day. Nichols also cashed in for 29 total points scored off of 17 Rivier turnovers.
Nichols turned up the heat early in the contest with a 13-4 lead midway through the first quarter, with Smith hitting back-to-back three-pointers to highlight the run. As Rivier tried to limit the damage further, Smith continued her hot shooting from three with another make at 3:27 of the period, keeping Nichols in control at 18-6. Rivier answered with a quick 7-0 run to pull back within five, only for
Jaelize Rivera and
Tianna Fernandez to convert on consecutive layups to give Nichols a 22-13 edge through one.
Nichols' lead returned to double figures to open the second quarter, with the Bison scoring six of the first eight points. From there, the hosts continued to pad their lead with a balanced attack, as they would later embark on an 11-2 run throughout the final five minutes of the half, highlighted by another pair of three-pointers from Romano and Rivera, sending the Bison into the halftime break with a comfortable 41-24 lead.
A 9-0 run early in the third featuring seven straight points from Klein opened up a 50-24 game, spearheading a quarter where the Bison outscored their opponent by a 16-6 margin. Nichols' also saw their largest lead of the afternoon with just 00:42 to play in the quarter, thanks to a steal and layup
Isabella Lopez-Marin, making the difference 31 points at 57-26.
With the 57-30 lead heading into the final frame, Nichols maintained defensively the rest of the way, resulting in the eventual 65-45 win.
Women's basketball is set to host MIT (1-4) for another non-conference showdown before the Thanksgiving break, with tipoff against the Engineers set for 5:30 PM on Tuesday, November 25
