CANTON, Mass. (11/22/2025) - Nichols men's ice hockey traveled to the Canton Ice House on Saturday for their second conference game match-up against ranked No. 6/7 Curry College. Providing a more even contest the Bison ultimately fell to the Colonels in a close conclusion, 4-2.
Nichols drops in overall record to an even 4-4-0 on the season, with their Conference of New England record at 3-2-0. Curry improves to a record of 4-1-0, 3-1-0 in the CNE.
The first period featured a relatively even-matched performance from both sides. Nichols saw six shots to Curry's eleven, with only one shot sinking into the goal at 19:33 and effectively putting Curry up as both teams came off the ice, 1-0. Goaltender
Liam Choquette clocked 10 saves for the first period, keeping more of Curry's offense at bay before heading into the second period.
The second period of play saw a relatively similar story in favor of the Colonels. Capitalizing early on a power play, Curry scored their second goal of the game at 5:14, putting them up 2-0 with ample time left. Despite two power-play opportunities for the Bison, they were unable to produce with the total four minutes of Curry being down a player. In shots, Nichols was evenly matched with eight shots in the second for each side, seven on goal and saved from Choquette.
Nichols executed a retaliatory goal early in the third period on a power-play goal from freshman forward
Justin Massa at 6:26, his first of his career. Assisting the score was
Dylan Ray, improving the score for the Bison and cutting the lead to one goal in favor of the Colonels, 2-1. Curry was able to expand the lead within that same minute with a score at 6:52, 3-1. With an emptied net at 15:37 and an extra skater on the ice for the Bison,
CJ Zezima notched his fourth goal of the season at 17:24, assisted by
Jeremy Tremblay. With Curry up 3-2 and less than three minutes left in the game, Nichols attempted to score with their net open again, calling Choquette out at 18:16. Curry capitalized on the no-goaltender opportunity, sinking the game-sealing goal at 19:51, ending the game 4-2 for the Colonels.
Men's ice hockey will return at No. 12 Endicott College on Thursday, December 4th at Raymond J. Bourque Arena. Game is set to start at 7:00 PM.
