HARRISVILLE, R.I. (10/31/2025) - The Nichols women's ice hockey team got its first win of the season over Framingham State University in a Halloween night clash at the Levy Rink on Friday. The Bison were able to push past the Rams in a 3-2 win, featuring goals from several individual scorers.
Following the win, Nichols starts their season with momentum at 1-0, while Framingham falls to 0-1 to start its season.
Freshmen
Keira Goffe and
Isabelle Brennan each tallied a goal, seeing their first taste of action on the ice in their collegiate career. Goffe also posted an assist for the goal scored by Brennan.
In the first period, the Bison came out firing, scoring their first of the game just one minute in.
Angalisa Caceda (1) scored the goal for Nichols, coming off a well-placed rebound from a saved shot prior, assisted by Kaylyn Borque and
Sienna Reeves. The Bison as a unit posted an impressively large sum of 24 shots in the first period, keeping the Rams on their toes and keeping the score in their favor going into the second period, 1-0.
For the second, Brennan (1) was able to add to the lead for Nichols with eyes locked on the goal, forcing the Rams' goaltender into a one-on-one situation. Brennan was assisted from a setup in the Bison territory by
Sienna Reeves and Goffe in the seventh minute. For a response, the Rams were able to get a point as well from a well-placed puck with 1:30 minutes remaining in the period. Nichols kept that same offensive pressure from the first period, getting 21 shots up against the Framingham State defense.
The final point for the Bison came from Goffe (1) 8:20 minutes into the third period from Riley Devin and
Kasey Litwin. Following four consecutive saves from
Paige Almon, the Rams were able to force a goal during a power play at 11:57, making the score 3-2 with time to spare. Following the goal, Almon posted several saves to keep the lead alive for the Bison.
The Bison's total of 64 shots in the game marks the highest for the team in a game since
62 shots against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on November 21st, 2023.
Litwin and Reeves posted two blocked shots respectively, leading the team in the stat, and the Bison won 43 of the 67 face-offs, a standout reason for Nichols' success in controlling the game.
The women's ice hockey team will play the Rams again tomorrow on Saturday, November 1st, on Framingham State's home ice of Loring Arena. Puck is scheduled to drop at 7:50 PM.
