DUDLEY, Mass. (10/28/2025) – It was quite the home sendoff for the Nichols field hockey team on Tuesday night, as the Bison dominated non-conference Elms College, 9-0 in their final home game of the 2025 fall season at Vendetti Field.
With the win, the Bison now stand at 4-13 (2-5 CNE) with one regular season game remaining, while Elms drops to 0-17 (0-10 GNAC) in what was their season finale.
Nichols' offensive onslaught started in the first quarter with three goals in the opening six and a half minutes. The first came just 28 seconds in, as junior forward
Sofia Calabro converted on a cross-net pass by freshman
Lily Gibson to open the scoring. Just under two minutes later, a
Merle Steinau penalty stroke goal would make it a 2-0 lead for the Bison, before a third goal by
Kaelyn Casper in the sixth minute of action fluffed the cushion to 3-0, with Steinau adding the helper to that as well.
Nichols continued to keep the pressure on the Blazers with more Bison contributing to the offensive clinic.
Spencer Cameron was the next on the scoresheet with her first collegiate goal, which she put home off a purposeful deflection by Casper to further the host advantage to 4-0. Casper added another point in the game, deflecting a pass from
Asya Osei-Opoku to set up
Spencer Cameron with her first career goal in the 22
nd minute. Then, late in the period,
Katherine Hearn registered her second goal of the season, as she fired a shot off a penalty corner that found its way through traffic in front of the Blazer goal, sending the Bison into halftime leading by five.
Gibson bolstered Nichols' lead with back-to-back goals in the 35
th and 42
nd minute marks of the third quarter, with Calabro adding assists to each to complete her four-point performance. However, it didn't stop there as
Emma Bianculli cleaned up a loose ball in front on another Bison penalty corner, cashing in for her fifth goal of the season from
Taylor Breen and
Gabby Couillard, just moments before Casper scored her second of the night with just 00:02 remaining in the period to cap Nichols' night off at 9-0.
The Bison offense exploded for a season-high 38 shots against the Blazers, while six total players registered multi-point nights. In goal,
Fallyn Belisle (1-4) earned her first victory of the season as the starter, while
Jessa Altemose provided support through the second half of the contest.
The Bison have a trip to UMass Dartmouth (2-15, 0-5 LEC) on the horizon for their regular season finale on Thursday, October 30
th. Game start is set for 7:00 PM at Cressy Field.
