DUDLEY, Mass. (10/27/2025) - The Nichols College men's tennis team opened at home with fierce competition against Franklin Pierce University, who compete at the Division II level for tennis. The Bison put up a good fight, but ultimately see a loss against the Ravens, 5-2.
With the loss, men's tennis' overall record drops to 1-2. Franklin Pierce improve to 1-6 on the season.
To start the day, the Bison were able to secure the doubles point winning two of the three match ups.
Ezra Raphael and Ruben Minguez fought hard at the No. 1 court were defeated 0-6. Following the loss at the No. 1 position, the freshmen pairing of
Nikolas Bertrams and
William Albrikes earned their win on court No. 2 in a convincing 6-3 victory. To get the point for the Bison,
Rodolfo Hernandez and
Mason Harris edged out the competition on the No. 3 court, 7-5.
For singles action, the Ravens rallied on five of the six courts to win the match.
Felipe Gonzalez was beaten at the No. 5 position to start singles play 2-6, 6-0, followed by a close loss by freshman
Jodha Singh on the No .1 court, 3-6, 3-6.
Alexander Snitko lost on the No. 6 court, 1-6, 2-6, and was followed by a loss from Hernandez at the No. 4 position, 1-6, 1-6.Â
To highlight the experience, Albrikes took the sole point for the Bison in singles competition, able to rally against his opponent at the No. 3 position and come out with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Bertrams was defeated on the No. 2 court, but was able to take his opponent to three sets almost mounting a comeback, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6.
Despite the outcome, the high level of play the Bison were able to maintain against a tougher opponent shows promise for their competition in the spring.Â
Men's tennis will return at Vassar College, to play on February 28th at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center. Start time is set for 10:00 AM.
