DUDLEY, Mass. (10/25/2025) – The Nichols College field hockey program had a lot to celebrate on Saturday afternoon, as they clinched the final berth in the upcoming Conference of New England Tournament with a 3-0 shutout victory over Gordon College on Senior Day at Vendetti Field.
The Bison improve to 4-13 (2-5 CNE) overall, and lock up the 6
th seed in the tournament field. Gordon, with the loss, falls to 2-17 (1-6 CNE).
The Bison dominated the opening quarter, maintaining offensive possession nearly the entire way through with seven shots on goal. One of those shots made its way into the back of the net for the game's first goal, which came off the stick of senior
Taylor Breen, with assists from
Merle Steinau and
Lily Gibson. Shortly after, the Bison made it a 2-0 lead on
Emma Bianculli's fourth goal of the season, with
Sofia Calabro adding the helper.
Nichols tightened its grip in the second quarter, firing off another seven shot attempts. In the 26
th minute of the quarter, Gibson added to her stat line with her third goal of the season as Steinau dished out an assist on a shot from outside, which Gibson then redirected to make it a 3-0 score.
Despite a pair of late Gordon penalty corners, Nichols hunkered down for a scoreless second half, outshooting the Fighting Scots by an 11-2 margin for the win.
The Bison have a pair of games remaining in the regular season, with their home finale coming up on Tuesday, October 28
th against non-conference Elms College (0-16, 0-10 GNAC). Game start is set for 7:00 PM at Vendetti field.
