Field Hockey Dealt 5-0 Loss to Bridgewater State

DUDLEY, Mass. (10/22/2025) – The Nichols women's field hockey team lost to Bridgewater State University by a final score of 5-0 on Wednesday evening in non-conference play at Vendetti Field.

Nichols' record now stands at 3-13 (1-5 CNE) overall, while Bridgewater State improves to 13-2 (8-1 MASCAC).

Nichols looked sharp defensively early on in the action, but the Bears eventually found their offensive rhythm and fired off three quick goals late in the first quarter, two of which came just 16 seconds apart. After ramping up their pressure in the second, the Bears would be rewarded with a fourth goal in the 27th minute on a penalty stroke, increasing their lead to 4-0 at the half.

The third quarter ended up being a lackluster affair between the two teams, with Nichols registering the lone shot attempt off a look by sophomore Emma Bianculli. However, the Bears would re-tilt the scales in their favor with a 3-0 shots edge in the fourth quarter, one of which produced their fifth and final goal of the contest at the 48th minute.

For the game, Bridgewater State held advantages over the Bison in total shots (25-6), shots on goal (16-2) and penalty corners (9-3). Starting goalkeeper Jessa Altemose (3-9) made 11 saves over a full 60-minute effort.

Nichols is back home to host CNE opponent Gordon College (2-16, 1-5 CNE) for the program's Senior Day, with game start set for 5:00 PM at Vendetti Field.
