MILTON, Mass. (10/18/2025) – The Nichols football team suffered its first conference setback of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling to host Curry College, 71-27 at Walter M. Katz Field.
The Bison fall to 2-4 (2-1 CNE) overall with the loss, while the Colonels improve to 5-1 (3-0 CNE).
Both teams showcased their strengths in the game, with Curry rushing for a whopping 633 yards and nine touchdowns. However, the Bison delivered a solid outing from the air, going 25-of-48 for 330 yards, and a pair of touchdowns. Junior quarterback
Ethan LaGuardia accounted for 205 of those yards, with a long attempt of 47 yards, connecting with receivers
Aaron Canuel and
Jack Morvan for each of the passing touchdowns. Freshman running back
Ricardo Navedo led the rush with 52 yards on 17 carries, while classmate
Carson Clark paced the defense with four total tackles.
Curry took the early lead via a field goal on its first trip down the field, but Nichols soon answered towards the tail end of the opening quarter on a first-and-goal rushing touchdown by Navedo, putting them in front 7-3. However, Curry got one last word in before the horn, thanks to a rushing touchdown of their own from 65 yards.
Curry tightened its grip with a pair of scores through the first seven minutes of the second quarter, expanding their lead to 24-7. Nichols countered just ahead of the two-minute warning of the half, with senior quarterback
Ian Snow sneaking into the endzone from just one yard out, keeping Nichols in pursuit at 24-14. As was the case in the first quarter, Curry would capitalize on its final drive, this time off a pass to re-extend their lead to 17 points at the break.
The third quarter turned into a shootout between the two teams, with Curry holding the edge in scoring by a 20-14 margin. For the Bison, their pass game paid off in a big way with Canuel hauling in his lone receiving touchdown from 25 yards, while the second belonged to Morvan from 27 yards with 3:55 to play in the period, both off passes from LaGuardia.
The Colonels would tack on another 20 unanswered points in the fourth, finalizing the 71-27 final.
Nichols hosts Endicott College (4-1, 2-0 CNE) for another conference showdown at Vendetti Field, with kickoff set for 12:00 PM.
