DUDLEY, Mass. (9/30/24) – The Nichols College women's tennis team continued their winning ways on Monday afternoon, posting a 6-1 victory over non-conference opponent UMass Boston at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
The Bison improve to 6-2 (3-0 CNE) on the season, while the Beacons drop to 5-2 (3-0 LEC).
Nichols claimed wins in two-of-three doubles matches to secure the opening point of the afternoon. To start, the senior pair of
Johanna Schroeder and
Bethany Prendergast prevailed 6-1 at No. 3 doubles, while freshman
Kamora Helton and
Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi picked up their sixth win together this season with a 6-4 triumph in the No. 1 spot.
The Bison then carried their momentum into singles play, winning at all but one court. Gonzalez Vallardi got things started with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 decision over her opponent at the No. 2 position, which was then followed by a 6-2, 6-1 triumph from Schroeder on court three. Prendergast clinched the match for Nichols with a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 5 singles, earning the winning point in the second set by a tiebreak score of 7-4.
After the Beacons claimed their point, the Bison picked up the final two wins on the day, which were both played to three long sets. The first was at No. 6 singles, where sophomore
Erin Helly battled to 6-4, 4-6 scores through the first two sets, before winning via a tiebreak 10-5. Senior
Antonia Carrero was the last to finish for the Bison, winning at the top singles position by way of a 13-11 third set tiebreak to finalize the 6-1 win.

st for a conference showdown at Suffolk University (0-6, 0-4 CNE) beginning at 3:30 PM.
