DUDLEY, Mass. (9/20/24)- It was a defensive battle as the University of New England Nor'easters visited the Nichols College Bison in the opening game of women's soccer action for the conference of New England. The Nor'easter's edged the Bison 2-1 in a tight match.
Â
The match remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play thanks to strong defensive play on both sides. UNE outshot the Bison 15 to 9 in the opening frame, as Senior starting goaltender
Saige Frazier made 8 saves to keep the game scoreless.
The goals came fast and furious in the 2nd frame UNE opened the scoring in the 58th minute as Lizzie Frattaroli scored her sixth goal of the season. Not even a minute later Nichols junior
Falyn Hunt scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season to lock the game up at 1.
Â
However, in the 80th minute, the Nor'easters scored the go-ahead goal to take a 2 to-1 lead over the Bison. Despite the bison's best efforts that goal remained as the game-winner.
Â
In goal, Frazier would go on to add another two saves in the loss. With the loss, the Bison's record drops to 3-3-2 (0-1 CNE). Their next task lies next Saturday, September 28th as they are set to host the Wentworth Institute of Technology in another Conference of New England match-up. That game, which will serve as the team's annual Hallie Linacre memorial game, is set to kick off at 3:00 PM on the Nichols Soccer Field
