DUDLEY, Mass. (9/14/2024) - The Nichols College Bison hosted the Smith Pioneers in a hard-fought match in Dudley, Massachusetts. Both teams came out determined, battling for control in a game that saw solid defense and midfield play on both sides. Despite several scoring opportunities for each team, the first half ended in a 0-0 deadlock, with neither side able to break through. 

As the second half got underway, both teams continued to push the pace, but Smith finally found the breakthrough. In the 64th minute, they managed to break down the Bison defense and slot home the game's only goal.  

The Bison, unfazed by the Pioneers' goal, responded by ramping up their offensive efforts, creating multiple scoring chances and outshooting the Pioneers 17-11 throughout the match. Their aggressive play and determination were evident, but unfortunately, Nichols couldn't find the back of the net. The Pioneers' defense stood firm, preventing a Bison equalizer in the final minutes. 

With the 0-1 loss, the Bison's record now stands at 2-2-2 (0-0 CNE), while the Pioneers earned their first victory of the season, improving to 1-4-0. Nichols will look to bounce back in their next match, at an away game against Rivier University on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Bison will then return home next weekend for their CNE opener and homecoming match against the University of New England.
