Bison Go Back-to-Back with 2-0 Win over Salem

DUDLEY, Mass. (9/11/24)- The Nichols College women's soccer team continued their impressive run with a 2-0 home victory over the Salem State Vikings, securing back-to-back wins for the first time since 2022. Playing in front of an energetic home crowd in Dudley, the Bison came out aggressive and focused from the opening whistle, determined to build on their recent momentum.

Junior standout Falyn Hunt wasted no time putting her mark on the game, scoring the first goal in the 13th minute, assisted by freshman Summer Bruno. The early goal set the tone for the Bison, who maintained pressure throughout the first half while showing discipline in defense to neutralize Salem State's attack.

Despite numerous efforts from the Vikings to level the score, Nichols' defense stood strong. The Bison's backline displayed excellent teamwork and organization, effectively shutting down Salem State's attack and preventing them from generating any clear scoring opportunities. On the offensive end, Nichols dominated, outshooting the Vikings 35-4, which further emphasized their control of the match and their dominance.

Both teams came out with renewed energy in the second half, but Nichols capitalized once again. In the 64th minute, Hunt found the back of the net for her second goal of the match, increasing her season tally to five. This time, the play was set up by captain Grace Killman and freshman Sophia English, whose quick passing unlocked Salem State's defense. Hunt's composure in front of goal continues to make her a key player for the Bison.

The Bison defense effectively prevented Salem State from scoring, resulting in a 2-0 final score. With this victory, the Bison improved their season record to 2-1-2, while the Vikings fall to 1-3-0. The Bison's defensive strength and offensive prowess were on full display, showcasing their overall performance and the team's ability to maintain their lead throughout the match, which highlights their growing confidence and chemistry.

The Bison return to action this Saturday at 11 a.m. when they host Smith College, hoping to extend their winning streak and continue their strong run of form on home turf.
