DUDLEY, Mass. (8/31/24) – The Nichols College women's tennis team triumphed over Saint Anselm College, 5-2 in their season opener on Saturday afternoon at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
The Bison open the year with a 1-0 record, while Saint Anselm starts off at 0-1 overall.
Nichols claimed the doubles point to start the afternoon, beginning with a 6-3 victory from newcomers
Kamora Helton and
Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi at the No. 1 position. To follow, the returning duo of
Charis Vogler and
Cora Brosch picked up a matching 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, clinching the point for the Bison.
Johanna Schroeder and
Antonia Carrero then made it a complete sweep at No. 2 doubles, winning 6-4.
In singles action, Brosch dominated on court No. 4 with back-to-back 6-1 decisions, before Vogler extended the Bison lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory on the next court over. Senior
Antonia Carrero then clinched the match with an equally impressive performance at No. 2 singles, winning by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. The final singles victory on the day belonged to
Johanna Schroeder, as she defeated her opponent on court No. 4 by scores of 7-5 and 6-2.
The Bison continue their season-opening homestand with a 1:00 PM matchup against Regis College (0-0) on Saturday, September 7
th.
