WORCESTER, Mass. (8/31/24)- The Nichols College Women's Soccer team played a competitive match against the Clark Cougars from Granger Field on th campus of Clark University, on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars emerged victorious over the Bison with a final score of 3-1.
The Cougars came out hungry and scored their first goal in the first 9 minutes of the match. The early lead put pressure on the Bison, but they responded with resilience. The Bison struck back in the 24th minute, when graduate student and team captain Grace Killman buried her first goal of the season. Killman's goal fired up her teammates, and the Bison fought to keep their momentum for the remainder of the first half.
As the second half started, the game remained tightly contested, with both teams striving for control. However, in the 66th minute Clark managed to break down the Bison defense and reclaim the lead with a well-placed shot. Just 10 minutes later, the Cougars struck again, extending their lead to 3-1. This rapid series of goals gave the Bison little time to mount a comeback, even with their best efforts.
Throughout the game, the Bison exhibited resilience and determination, but it was the Cougars' strong defensive plays and well-timed goals that ultimately made the difference.
Clark secured a victory, marking the beginning of their season with a 1-0 record, as the Nichols College Bison's record fell to 0-1-1. Following the loss, the Bison will regroup and be geared up to compete against Russell Sage College on Wednesday, September 4th, with the home-field advantage in their favor.
