Men's Tennis Advance in NCAA Tournament, Beat Rams 5-0

BRUNSWICK, Maine (5/10/2024) – In the first round of NCAA tournament action, the Nichols College Bison men's tennis team blanked the Farmingdale State College Rams, 5-0. The win advances the Bison to the second round of action, where they will face regional host Bowdoin.

The match marked the first all-time meeting between the two programs. This season, Nichols now sits at 14-7. They hand the previously undefeated Rams their first loss of the year, as they finish 17-1 for this season.

In opening doubles action, the Bison enjoyed much of the success they have seen throughout post-season play. In a perfect 8-0 score line, the number three duo of Trevor Schwarzmann & Enzo Matos Balleux got the first point of the match for the Bison. Later, within minutes of each other, 8-5 scores were earned in the Bison's favor at both one and two doubles. Those were thanks to pairs Leon Zeis & Kerem Subasi and Caio Dieckmann & Richard Hartmann Zuzio. The games allowed the Bison to hold a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

With just two points needed to clinch the match, the Bison's depth which has proved critical all season, was what got the job done once again. The first to finish was Subasi at number five singles, where he got a 6-2, 6-3 score. The match winner came from Oscar Junyent at six, where he was dominant in a 6-3, 6-1 game. Schwarzmann was just seconds from clinching his number two match, and Matos Balleux and Hartmann Zuzio were also leading when the game was called in the Bison's favor.

With the win, the Bison have advanced to the second round of the 2024 NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament. They will now square off against regional host Bowdoin in round two. That match is set for 10 AM, tomorrow Saturday, May 11th at the Pickard Courts on the campus of Bowdoin College.
