HARRISVILLE, R.I. (2/9/2024) – The Nichols College Women's Ice Hockey team fell in a tight 1-0 matchup with the Western New England University Golden Bears on Friday evening in Harrisville.

Bison junior goaltender
Anamary Pulgar got the nod in net for the home side and was sensational stopping 31 of the 32 shots she faced.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first two periods of play thanks to the strong play of Pulgar and Golden Bears starter Kayla Ireland. It was WNE's Maddie Pope who converted off a turnover in the neutral zone and went in alone beating Pulgar to put the visitors ahead 1-0 just over five minutes into the third period. The Bison would pull Pulgar late in the game but were unable to break Ireland's shutout with the extra attacker on the ice.

The Bison edged the Golden Bears 9-7 in blocked shots, with freshman
Anneliese Klein leading the team with four. Final shots on goal were 32-29 in favor of the visiting Golden Bears, with junior
Melissa Montesi and freshman
Rhea Bullens leading the way for the Bison with five a piece.

The Bison's next game will be on the road as they head to Biddeford, Maine tomorrow, Saturday February 10
th for a battle with the University of New England. Puck drop is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Harold Alfond Forum.
